Tax benefits of homeownership & first-time homebuyers tax credit

So, we've all heard about the current housing and economic downturn. But in times like these, it's always helpful to remember there are always opportunities to be had.

Are there opportunities in buying a house today? Yes, there are numerous reasons to purchase a house right now, especially if you are a first-time homebuyer. Take a look at the quick list below:

So, what does this $8,000 tax credit mean?
• Up to an $8,000 tax credit for purchase of a principal residence
• Is equal to 10 percent of the home's purchase price up to a maximum of $8,000
• Has income limits of $75,000 for single taxpayers and $150,000 for married couples
• Applies to homes purchased between Jan. 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010 (Must be under contract by April 30, 2010.)
• Families or individuals are considered "first-time" buyers if they have not owned a home for three years or more
• Credit does not have to be repaid if the home isn't sold for three years
Now, that's a stimulus. Buy now, enjoy your home for three years, get $8,000.

Woodhill Homes was founded in April 2002 by George Hale and Jay Campbell. With combined experience in real estate and residential construction, they set out to build a company whose purpose was to find innovative ways to change the home buying and home building experience in Central Oregon.
